House of the Dead: Overkill

The concept of HOTD is always going to be dear to my heart because it was 1 of the first games I ever played on Dreamcast. I often played HOTD 4 in arcades when I had the time and FINALLY they have a version for home. I was happy, that is until I played.

There are 7 scenes to this mockery of a Tarantino film with EXCESSIVE cuss words and long drawn out scenes. Definitely not recommended for children. The rail shooting ia enjoyable until you play the game more and more and realize there is a sequence that you can perfect if you play frequently enough.

There are some cute min-games all revolving around shooting targets of course and once the credit began rolling after finishing it so soon and spending full price. I re-gifted and gave it to a friend. ;)

Not the best but cool for HOTD fans.

Really weird, incestuous type jokes hold back an otherwise awesome game for me.
Tons of bad language and purposefully mediocre graphics might also turn some off.

Outside of that the game is largely funny. I'm not a big story guy in games. I try and play RPGs to enjoy a good story, but I just can't vibe with anime type stuff or who's lord of the rings in Halo. By making fun of itself, and being pretty funny in general, Overkill made me anticipate cutscenes. They were a good reward.

The shooting itself is the light gun shooting you're used to in arcades with extra weapons you can buy and upgrade. A nice addition. Also, the game rewards you for shooting accurately. The more zombies you shoot without missing the higher the score multiplier, so pros don't just shoot away. You can play 2 player co-op in story mode and there are a few mini-games for up to 4 players. There's an abbreviated story mode you play through first (it cuts off some gameplay segments so you can get to the cutscenes a little quicker). Then there's a full Director's Cut story mode which extends the gameplay sequences and packs some surprises of it's own. There are plenty of unlockables too.

For the price it's at now this game is well worth it BUT you have to be able to stomach some weird stuff. With that warning, have a blast

The game is definitely rated R. It doesnt have many levels so after awhile it gets boring. I would not recommend this game for kids. If you like violence then this is a good game. Shipping was fast.

When you think of this game think of a B movie, because thats what this is. It's based on a B movie, with a cheesy story line, but that' what makes it good and very funny you just keep laughing at the 2 characters lines.
This an arcade style zombie shoot-um up and you don't have to worry about moving your chacter around because the computer does that for you. This is the kind of game you can go on for a short game without having to spend hours trying to find a place to save or stop. I also find it good to get my frustratings out on if I have a bad day, especally now Ive unlooked better weapons. You always have something to aim for on this game, from high scores to more money or just pointless shooting. You also have a few side games which are very good as well.
Remember treet like a B movie or game to take your temper out on by pointless shooting of zombies, and you will really enjoy this game.

This game was excellent! My boyfriend and I stayed up and finished out the game in two days. We went back and played again and again to beat scores and use new weapons. (I recommend the shotgun for head shots!)
House of the Dead 2 & 3 however I do not recommend. Very boring!
